Menagerie is driven by editors who aren't afraid to exercise idiosyncratic taste and judgement when curating our list and editing our books. We don't let the marketing department or the boardroom dictate what we acquire.

Menagerie cares what its readers think and endeavors to connect books with the communities they are written from and for. Every book is an opportunity for conversation.
What We're Looking For
We’re interested in work that is playful, curious, and in love with the world. Genre-bending and form-focused work is welcome here. We’re not interested in straightforward commercial work. We have literary values spliced with genre DNA, so don’t be afraid to try us!

Open Reading Periods
We have two open reading periods a year: June-July and December-January. During the open periods, you can submit without a fee. You do not need an agent to submit; we’re open to anyone. We do cap these reading periods at 500 submissions, though, so once we hit our cap we’ll close. Please check our submittable page for manuscript guidelines.

Publication Contests
We hold two annual publication contests, one in poetry and one in fiction. These contests will be administered by the editorial staff and judged by outside judges. Contest winners will receive a $500 advance and publication by Menagerie Books.
